UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE WEEKLY CLAIMS REPORT
SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA
In the week ending July 1, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial
claims was 313,000, a decrease of 2,000 from the previous week's revised
figure of 315,000. The 4-week moving average was 308,500, an increase of 2,500
from the previous week's revised average of 306,000.
The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.9 percent for the week ending June 24, unchanged from the prior week's unrevised rate of 1.9 percent.
The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment during the week ending June 24 was 2,455,000, an increase of 52,000 from the preceding week's revised level of 2,403,000. The 4-week moving average was 2,425,500, an increase of 11,250 from the preceding week's revised average of 2,414,250.
UNADJUSTED DATAThe advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 303,265 in the week ending July 1, an increase of 15,545 from the previous week. There were 327,268 initial claims in the comparable week in 2005.
The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.8 percent during the
week ending June 24, an increase of 0.1 percentage point from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number
for persons claiming UI benefits in state programs totaled 2,268,509, an increase
of 48,460 from the preceding week. A year earlier, the rate was 1.9 percent
and the volume was 2,415,224.
Extended benefits were not available in any state during the week ending June 17.
Initial claims for UI benefits by former Federal civilian employees totaled 1,412 in the week ending June 24, an increase of 172 from the prior week. There were 1,931 initial claims by newly discharged veterans, a decrease of 32 from the preceding week.
There were 11,812 former Federal civilian employees claiming UI benefits for the week ending June 17, a decrease of 285 from the previous week. Newly discharged veterans claiming benefits totaled 25,060, a decrease of 260 from the prior week.
The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending June 17 were in Puerto Rico (3.9 percent), Alaska (3.2), Michigan (2.8), Pennsylvania (2.8), New Jersey (2.4), Arkansas (2.3), Oregon (2.3), Massachusetts (2.2), Wisconsin (2.2), California (2.1), and Connecticut (2.1).
The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending June 24 were in North Carolina (+6,495), New Jersey (+5,291), Massachusetts (+3,378), Connecticut (+2,073), and Missouri (+1,412), while the largest decreases were in Pennsylvania (-3,070), Wisconsin (-2,412), Illinois (-2,161), Georgia (-1,301), and Maryland (-1,147).
